A decade ago, Gregorio Rodriguez and his family joined our growing, vibrant hispanic community within Monticello. "We had family here and after visiting several times, we liked it here so much we decided to move here. We were living in Hammond, Indiana and were looking for a calm and pretty place to raise our family."
After his move, Mr. Rodriguez soon realized that many Hispanics in the area were going to Lafayette or Chicago to find authentic Mexican food products. Owning a grocery in Chicago before he opened La Mexicana, he brought with him experience and expertise in selecting foods that people in this area were missing. He smiles, "We like being the only Mexican grocery in town, but there are opportunities for more businesses that cater to the Hispanic Community."
