    Monticello stands at the center of White and Carroll counties, a spectacular summertime recreation are. Situate on the Tippecanoe River between to meandering man-made lakes, The City of Monticello shares its amenities and heritage with more than one million visitors annually.

    Interstate 65 is approximately 20 miles to the west of the city, reached by U.S. Highway 24. This highway intersects with north-south U.S. 421 and State Road 39 in Monticello.

    Monticello's highway and rail transportation systems provide companies and industries with a wide spectrum of capabilities to meet their unique needs. Whether bringing in raw mateials or shipping out finished goods, the area has the necessary resources to keep manufacturing lines moving.

    In addition to being ideally located between major airports (Chicago's Midway and O'Hare International Airport), White County has its own general aviation airport. White County Airport offers full maintenance facilities and fuels for jet and prop-driven aircraft.

    Several railroads serve the community business and industrial base. The T P & W Railroad has a cap I intermodal Hub Center on US Highway 24 West. In addition, seven motor freight firms provide intra-and- interstate shipping. Monticello is located 80 miles from Burns Harbor, at Portage, giving area firms access to world markets via the St. Lawrence Seaway.

    Twin Lakes School Corporation presents an atmopshere of educational challenge and teamwork. The corporation has fine school buildings, equipment, excellent programs, highly skilled teachers, interested parents and approximately 2,600 students.

    Twin Lakes School Corporation serves Monticello and the communities of Idaville, Burnettsville, and Yeoman. The corporation's administrative headquarters is housed in the former South Grade School, a building listed on the National Register of Historic Places.     Faith and family values remain a major influence in the lives of Monticello residents.

    Today, more than twenty churches representing all major denominations raise steeples skyward in Monticello. Throughout the city, church architectural designs and service formats vary. Teaching and reaching the faithful is the constant thread among all the denominations. Faith-based programs include worship services, Sunday schools, youth fellowship opportunities mission outreaches, musical concerts, vacation bible schools and preschools.

    Economic Resources and Assistance

    Government leaders at all levels work together to make Monticello a choice location for industry and business. Incentives are utilized to attract new industrial development to the greater Monticello area. White County Economic Development assists prospective business and industry interested in locating in the county and Monticello.

    City of Monticello leaders work at the regional level with Indiana Economic Development Corporation and Lafayette-West Lafayette Economic Development Corporation to ensure that no new business leads are overlooked. Monticello has created "Economic Revitalization Areas" where relocating or expanding companies can have real estate and personal property taxes abated for up to 10 years. The Monticello Economic Development Commission (EDC) works with the Mayor and City Council on important economic development issues.

    Several Indiana agencies and organizations provide business incentives and assistance. Purdue University offers a popular and free Technical Assistance Program to area businesses to address concerns or issues faced.

    Monticello's quality of life and recreational opportunities makes it a premier target for new and expanding businesses.

    Monticello has a solid industrial base in which no company dominates the labor market, thus assuring a strong local economy.

    The area's diverse industrial base represents national and international companies - including Ball Metal Beverage Container Corporation, Emerson Electric's McGill Corporation, Monticello Spring Corporation, MSCA, Polymer Science, and Jordan Manufacturing.

    White County, with Monticello as it's county seat, is home to Cives Steel Company (the nation's largest steel fabricator) and Vanguard Trailer - a growth leader in the trucking trailer manufacturing industry. As Indiana's largest popcorn producer, natural fit companies include Vogel Popcorn and Wabash Valley Farms, manufacturer of the famous stovetop Whirley Pop Popcorn Popper.

    Area industrial and business employers benefit from the proximity of higher education training programs provided through Ivy Tech and Purdue University. While Monticello employees are well trained - resulting in an efficient, dependable, hardworking and reliable workforce.     Indiana University Health White Memorial Hospital is a critical access hospital located in Monticello, Indiana.
